Phantom of the Opera - Plays & Musicals

Awde, Nick
Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Musical
ISBN: 1898948488 (1999)
Desert Hearts
In print at amazon.co.uk
Strange little thing. Has nothing to do with Phantom. Seems to be a parody on the life of Andrew Lloyd Webber

Bell, David/Tim Sivak
1991
Drury Lane's Phantom of the Opera (aka Phantom: A New Musical)
Not much seems to be known about this one. I can find almost no information about it online. I did find something on a Dutch site, plus a write up in John Flynn's book Phantoms of the Opera. The show was produced at the Drury Lane's Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Raoul seems to be the Phantom's half-brother. In the end, Christine not only takes off the Phantom's mask, but also his shirt.

Bernstein, Elmer/Don Black
Phantom of the Opera
After some investigation, this one I don't think exists at all. Don Black did some lyrics for ALW's Phantom of the Opera and Bernstein/Black did work together on a number of occasions. Other than that, there's no info whatsoever on it.

Samuel French, Inc

From the publisher's website: Cast 5M, 4F This finely tuned parody of Frankenstein movies, a short version of The House of Frankenstein!, is fun for actors and audiences. The Baron tries to counsel and cure a motley crew of monsters he has invited to his castle. The Baroness hits the bottle, his guests reveal their true colors and chaos erupts. Not sure if this has the Phantom in it, but when doing an Amazon.com search this was pulled up. If you do decide to buy it, don't buy it from Amazon.com Go directly to Samuel French's site. It's cheaper.

Hill, Ken
The Phantom of the Opera, a Musical Play
ISBN: 0-573-08096-8 (1994)
Samuel French, Inc
In print
Cast: 9M, 5F From the back of the script Gaston Leroux's classic tale of tragedy, grand opera, romance and horror has been masterfully adapted by Ken Hill into a musical play which preserves all of the excitement and passion of the much-loved original, underscored by a strong current of comedy as well. The Phantom, born with a monstrously disfigured face but the voice of an angel, haunts the Paris Opera House and falls in love with Cristine, a young chorus girl. He terrorizes the management in order to further Christine's career, while preying upon her childlike innocence to force her to love him in return. But Raoul, Chrisitne's true love, inteneds to fight for her to the end...The magnificent score is based upon original arias from the operas of Verdi, Gounod, Bized and others, delightfully arranged by Alasdair MacNeill.

Giles, David
