Review: I adore this one. It is the soundtrack from the TV miniseries with Charles Dance, Terri Polo and Burt Lancaster. It has excerpts from Faust in it, which sound wonderful. The Christine's voice and the Phantom's voice are perfect for both Christine and the Phantom. This should have been a 2 disc set, in my humble opinion. There was so much good music. This is a highly rare CD to find anywhere. I got lucky and was in England back in 1991 and found it at London's Virgin Records store The Phantom of the Opera Composer: Ennio Morricone a film by Dario Argento Starring Julian Sands and Asia Argento 1999 RTI Music LC 5866 in print

Learn To Be Lonely - (featuring Minnie Driver) | Review: Gerard and Emmy just. can't. sing. They're terrible for this piece. Emmy's voice is nice, probably more for a pop sound rather than something more operatic. And Gerard...I can't even hear him singing rock. So what if they have emotion in their voice...there's more to that for singing and acting. Patrick Wilson's sound is very smooth, and well, perfect. I wish he could have been allowed to let go a bit more and really sing, but then, he would have overshadowed the to main leads. The rest of the supporting cast is pretty much fine. Miranda Richardson would have been better without her fake accent, but still not too bad to listen to. The only member who was dubbed was Minie Driver. She can't sing anything operatic (although she does have a nice husky voice and it goes very well on the songs she sings on her debut album. Margaret Preece steps in for the singing. She was a stage Carlotta. She's wonderful. Jennifer Ellison is Britian's answer to Britney Spears--in looks only. Jennifer has much more substance than Britney. An accomplished dancer, actor and singer. Her voice and acting were perfect for Meg in this. It's a shame that the two leads couldn't have been top-notch. This should have been a phenomenal movie. Instead it is just slightly below average The Phantom of the Opera 2 Disc special limited edition This was a special limited edition came with a hard-back book and the two CD's. Review: This one is much better. Uwe isn't the best Phantom in the world, but he's much better than Gerard. Too bad this and the other foreign soundtracks are only highlights. El Fantasma de la Opera Highlights Composer: Andrew Lloyd Webber a film by Joel Schumacher 2004 Sony BMG In print

Review: A powerful recording. A good number of these singers were cast members in the Madrid stage show. When they sing, they know their parts well, and add extra emotion, and nuances that is missing from the English soundtrack. A delight to listen to. In truth, all the foreign recordings (alas no French one was made) are extremely well-done, and when/if I watch the movie with the foreign soundtracks on, the movie is actually bearable. Review: This is what the English language soundtrack should have sounded like! Luca is a perfect-sounding Phantom! Powerful, yet gentle when he needs to be. Renata as Christine is a huge improvement over Emmy. The rest of the cast is excellent as well. The Italians do things a tad differently. They have someone sing, and they have someone different speak lines. I've listed the singers only here. |
