Phantom of the Opera - RUG Singles

In order by year the CD was produced (based on my CD collection only):

London Cast CD MaxiSingle (3 Tracks)
1987 Polydor 859 343-2 German Printing
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Michael Crawford
Christine: Sarah Brightman
Original London Cast

Tracks:
1. The Phantom of the Opera
2. Entr'Acte
3. Masquerade

Review:
Well, not much to say here....the usual fare, MC, SB, from the OLC. Great addition to the collection.

London Cast CD Sampler Promo (4 Tracks)
1987 Polydor 831 488-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Michael Crawford
Christine: Sarah Brightman
Raoul: Cliff Richards

Tracks:
1. The Music of the Night
2. All I Ask of You
3. The Phantom of the Opera
4. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

Review:
A hard to come by single. Was for promotional use only, probably for radio stations Thus the reason for the non-color cover. Amusing that for AIAOY, they use Cliff Richards instead of Steve Barton.

London Cast 45 Japanese Single
1986 Polydor 5DM0211
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Steve Harley
Christine: Sarah Brightman

Tracks:
1. The Phantom of the Opera
2. Overture

Review:
Steve Harley as the Phantom. Not my favorite version, but was different to add into my collection.

Canadian 2nd Anniversary Single
1992 Polydor PCD101
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Colm Wilkinson
Christine: Rebecca Caine

Tracks:
1. Music of the Night
2. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

Review:
Canadian Cast is not my favorite for one big reason: Colm Wilkinson. He just doesn't do it for me as the Phantom. His voice is just too rough. I don't believe he could be the Angel of Music Christine speaks of. This was a special promo that was given out during the 2nd Anniversary.

Canadian 3rd Anniversary Single
1993 Polydor PCD267
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Colm Wilkinson
Christine: Rebecca Caine

Tracks:
1. Music of the Night
2. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

Review:
The exact same songs as the 2nd Anniversary one. You think they could have been a bit more creative and at least chosen some different songs for it. Oh, well.

Das Phantom der Oper Single Mask Shaped CD (3 Tracks)
1990 Polydor 575 125-2 1996
out of print

Cast:
Das Phantom der Oper: Peter Hofmann
Christine: Anna Maria Kaufmann

Tracks:
1. Denk an Mich
2. Die Musik der Nacht
3. Konntest Du doch wieder hei mir sein

Review:
All songs taken from the German Highlights version. Actually this one's pretty neat. The CD is in the shape of the mask...trying to find a CD player to play it is a bit of a challenge, but nice to add to the collection. Anna Maria Kaufann's a great Christine..but I'm not too fond of Peter Hofmann

Das Phantom der Oper Stuttgart Single (4 Tracks)
2003 Universal Marketing Group GmbH 980 691-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Peter Hoffman
Christine Daae: Anna Maria Kauffman
Raoul: Hartwig Rudolz

Tracks:
1. Den an Mich
2. Engle der Muse
3. Das Phantom der Oper
4. Die Musik der Nacht

Review:
A hard to come by single, and was (I believe) given out during the Stuttgart premiere (or something like that). Too bad they didn't actually record the cast that was in Stuttgart. It would have been fun to hear some other men and women sing these songs.

Swiss Cast Recording Single (4 Tracks)
Polydor 573225-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Florian Schneider
Christine: Ute Baum
Raoul: Bjorn Olsson

Tracks:
1. Das Phantom der Oper
2 Die Musik der Nacht
3. Mehr will ich nicht von Dir
4. Konntest Du doch wieder bei mir sein

Review:
One complaint I've read over and over regarding this CD is that it's only a 4 track single I agree. It's amazing. I would have loved to hear the entire cast. Florian Schneider is a very smooth Phantom, Ute Baum's voice soars above many of the Christines out there. Bjorn Olsson has a good voice, perfect for Raoul.

Het Spook van de Opera Single (2 Tracks)
1993 Polydor 855-356-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Henk Poort
Christine Joke de Kruijf

Tracks:
1. Het Spook van de Opera
2. Entr'Acte (Instrumentaal)

Review:
Henk Poort is THE best sounding Phantom out there. He has this amazing power in his voice that is lacking in some of the other Phantoms. This is one of four very, very rare singles out there of the Dutch cast.

Melodieen van de Nacht Single (2 Tracks)
1993 Polydor 853 690-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Henk Poort
Dutch Cast

Tracks:
1. Melodieen Van de Nacht
2. Prima Donna

Review:
I could gush about Poort for all the reviews....This is two of four very, very rare singles out there of the Dutch cast.

Denk ann mij Single (2 Tracks)
1993 Polydor 853 030-2
out of print

Cast:
Christine: Joke de Kruijf
Raoul: Peter de Smet

Tracks:
1. Den ann mij
2. Bal Masque

Review:
Joke de Kruijf has a lovely voice, very pure and innocent sounding. Perfect for the role of Christine. Peter de Smet sounds very smooth--and aristorcratic. Perfect casting. This is the third of four very, very rare singles out there of the Dutch cast.

The Phantom of the Opera Alternate Cast Single (2 Tracks)
1993 Polydor 851 196-2
out of print

Cast:
Phantom: Henk Poort
Christine: Els Bongers

Tracks:
1. Kon ik Nog Maar Even Bijje Zijn
2. Het Spook van de Opera

Review:
It's nice to hear a different Christine in this cast of excellence. Again, Els Bongers' voice is beautiful, and full, very different from Joke de Kruijf's. Perfect casting. This is the fourth of four very, very rare singles out there of the Dutch cast, and the hardest one to find of all

El Fantasma de la Opera Single (1 Track)
2000 Columbia PRCD 98251
out of print/limited availability

Cast:
Phantom: Juan Navarro
Christine: Irasema Terrazas

Tracks:
1. El Fantasma de la Opera

Review:
Well, they weren't kidding when they said this was a 'single.' Only one song on it, the title song, taken from the highlights album.

El Fantasma de la Opera Remixes Single (4 Track)
2000 Columbia PRCD 98251
out of print/limited availability

Cast:
Phantom: Juan Navarro
Christine: Irasema Terrazas

Tracks:
1. Teatrical Dance Radio Mix
2. Teatrical Dance RMX
3. Electronic Ghost RMX
4. Rough Mix

Review:
I love remixes. They're fun, even if a bit corny, I like to hear how they try to jazz these up. These aren't the best. I still am partial to Harajuku's remixes, but they're great to hear. I'd say this is for really hard-core collectors to have.
